PROPERTY TAX REBATE & RELIEF |
|
|
HRM can
help homeowners pay their property taxes through a
payment plan or a variety of assistance programs.
There are different programs to choose from
depending on each person's situation, especially
those with low-income households of $26,000 or less.
Deadline for Applications is December 31st, 2004.
If
eligible, you can get up to $450 taken off of your
property tax bill. Please note that there is a
Minimum Property Tax Levy of $200. The maximum
rebates will not lower your tax bill below that $200
limit.
For
more details; call HRM Corporate Call Centre
490-4000 or toll-free 1-800-835-6428. Applications
must be accompanied by a copy of your Revenue Canada
(RC) Personal Income Tax Assessment Summary Sheet.
If you can not locate your RC Summary Sheet, call
them at 1-800-959-8281 to have a copy sent to you.
Seniors should also check out the NS Property Tax
Rebate Program. That Provincial program will provide
each qualifying recipient with a 50% rebate of the
property taxes paid to a maximum of $400. To find
out more info; call 1-877-296-9338 or 424-4500.
Application deadline is also December 31st. |

ICE &
SNOW CONTROL ON ROADS |
|
|
Motorists are asked to exercise extreme caution when
venturing out onto our roadways during this wintery
time of year. Be safe by having your vehicle
properly prepared for the worse.
The NS Dept.
of Transportation & Public Works does most of the
snow removal and ice control road services in
District 3. Our local NS Highway Depot in is
Chezzetcook at 827-2544. BUT for those areas west of
Little Salmon River, primarily the communities of
Westphal, Cherry Brook, Lake Loon, Lake Major, North
Preston, Cole Harbour basin and Ross Road and ALL
the subdivision streets in Lawrencetown, please call
HRM Snow and Ice Control at 490-6203 or the HRM
Service Call Centre at 490-4000.
Drivers can
get up-to-date road conditions across Nova Scotia by
calling the SNOW-line: 1-800-307-SNOW (7669) or in
HRM at 424-3933 or on-line at
www.gov.ns.ca/tran
and click on the Road & Weather Report Icon Button.
The SNOW-line is updated regularly at 7 AM; 1 PM;
and 5 PM. or more frequently in case of a major
storm event. For HRM Ice & Snow Control and Road
Service Standards please review them at:
www.halifax.ca/Works/Streets/snow_ice.html
www.halifax.ca/Works/Streets/servicestand.html
To
enable HRM work crews to plow and salt streets more
efficiently and safely, the Overnight Winter
Parking Ban will be coming into effect until
March 31, 2005. Even residents in the Suburban &
Rural areas should be aware and reminded that
Section 139 of the Motor Vehicle Act provides that
parked vehicles obstructing snow removal or winter
maintenance operations may be removed at the owners'
cost regardless of time or date. Having streets free
and clear of parked vehicles during snow storms
makes for more efficient and cost-effective snow
removal operations and facilitates better mobility
by emergency response agencies. The cooperation of
motorists in that regard is appreciated. |

HAPPY
& PEACEFUL HOLIDAY WISHES |
|
|
I would
like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a
very happy and safe Holiday Season. At this time of
the year there are many types of spiritual and
cultural celebrations. Season's Greetings, Happy
Hanukkah, Happy Kwanza, Merry Christmas, Joyeux
Noel, Peace On Earth and Goodwill to one and all; to
everybody everywhere!
The Holiday Season can be a very stressful time
of year for some folks. Unfortunately, they do not
manage their anger well and subsequently their
families bear the brunt of their frustration. Over
the past few years, various community groups have
been working on a peace at home campaign known as
the 14 Days in December - Gentle Ways Are Best. To
mark these community campaigns, there are Tree
Lighting Ceremonies being held throughout the area.
I encourage everyone to practice peace and have
tranquility and harmony in their lives. Take Care &
God Bless! |
