CLARIFYING CIVIC BOUNDARIES
Over the past
7 years HRM Civic Addressing has been working across
the Municipality verifying and correcting civic
addresses. Your civic address is comprised of your
civic number, street name and community name. An
important part of these projects is the review of
community names and boundaries. Once a community's
boundaries have been reviewed and approved by
Regional Council blue and white welcome signage is
installed.
HRM is about to start a project within the areas
known today as East Preston, North Preston, Lake
Major, Cherry Brook , Westphal and Cole Harbour to
verify the community names and boundaries. HRM
wishes to work with area residents to confirm these
names and boundaries. We will be contacting these
communities, by mail, in the upcoming months and
encourage everyone to participate.
If you have any questions in the meantime please do
not hesitate to contact the Civic Addressing
Coordinator, Gayle MacLean directly at 490-4105 or
by e-mail :

RESPONSIBLE DOG OWNERSHIP
HRM Animal
Control By-law A-300 ( www.halifax.ca/legislation/bylaws/hrm/documents/By-LawA-300.pdf
) is intended to promote responsible pet ownership.
No
dog is to:
(a) run at large, at any time, except on the
property of it’s owner;
(b) damage public or private property;
(c) defecate on any public or private property other
than the property of it’s owner, without the dog
owner immediately removing the defecation;
(d) be un-spayed, in heat and not be confined inside
a dog-proof enclosure; or
(e) be in a municipal park unless designated by
signage.
So
please register your dog, use a leash and clean up
the doggie doo. |

MOTORCYCLES & SCOOTERS USE
Atlantic Bike
Week (ABW) from June 8th-15th, is to promote the
social, environmental and recreational benefits of
motorcycle and scooter riding. These modes of
transportation can help reduce traffic and parking
congestion. And being smaller and lighter than most
vehicles, leads to less wear and tear on roadway
infrastructure.
Atlantic Bike
Week will have group rides, safety demonstrations,
movie nights, family picnics and more. One of the
key events during ABW is “Ride To Work Day”, on
Monday, June 15th, whereby motorcycle and scooter
owners are encouraged to ride to work on this day.
For more
details, go to their web-site at
www.atlanticbikeweek.com or contact Tim
Martin : ABW Event Coordinator at 222-4111 or by
e-mail at
info@atlanticbikeweek.com . |

WILDFIRE FIRST ANNIVERSARY
June 13th will be
the first anniversary the horrific wildfire between
Porters Lake, Lake Echo & Lawrencetown Lake. The
Mineville Community will be having its own
neighbourhood commemoration to mark this event. The
scarred landscape is still a reminder. Hopefully
more pleasant memories will be lasting from this
dramatic ordeal. |

ENVIRO WEEK : MAY 31st - JUNE 6th
Canadian
Environment Week 2009 will be from May 31st - June
6th. During Environment Week and throughout the
year, we are urged to reflect on the many ways we
can take action to protect and preserve our natural
surroundings. It is important to recognize that
every effort counts in reducing air and water
pollution, preserving our special places, and
tackling climate change.
Together we
can make our environment cleaner, greener and
healthier for generations to come. If you wish to
organize a community clean-up campaign or drive to
Adopt-a-Highway, please refer to these web-sites for
more information:
www.gov.ns.ca/tran/aah.asp or
www.myhrm.ca/ToolKit/OrganizeaNeighbourhoodCleanUp.php
.
The
Lake Echo Lions are hosting a highway clean-up on
Saturday, June 13th starting at 9 AM. Volunteers are
asked to show up at the community centre. |
