H.R.M. District 3 Councillor’s Communiqué
November 2008 - Issue # 132

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT

I want to give thanks to God and express my gratitude and appreciation for my re-election to serve as your Municipal Councillor. I feel blessed and it will be an honour to serve you once again in this capacity. I will continue to provide you with this monthly newsletter and hopefully expand my internet presence through more use of my web-pages and Facebook sites. I am looking forward to the challenges ahead. I hope that my endeavours over the next 4 years will earn your respect and support in the future.

At this time I would like to personally thank all 2,957 residents who voted for me. I should also acknowledge the valiant effort by my opponent, Spencer Colley, and his 1,936 votes. In total 4,924 votes were cast including 31 spoiled ballots. Total eligible voters in our District is 14,058, but only 35% of the voters actually turned out. Your votes for me will reinvigorate my commitment to you all. For those who voted against me, I hope to regain your trust. And for those who intended to voted for me but didn't, I appreciate your confidence. But for those who don't make the effort to vote at all, I need to ignite your interest and renew your participation.

This year we have been celebrating 250 years of parliamentary democracy that started here in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Your vote really does matter. Think about the sacrifices made by our previous generations that fought so hard to preserve and protect our freedom. Exercising your democratic rights is just one way of honouring their legacy to us all. I want to hear from you on how we can improve our electoral process. What do you think of the Internet & Telephone Voting Options ? Do you have any other suggestions on how we can improve voter participation?

At this time, I wish to thank those who volunteered during the campaign that helped with the signs, door-to-door canvassing, and fund-raising. I could not have done it without you. My heartfelt thanks to you all once again ! However there is one aspect of the campaign that I feel compelled to express. Even though there were 2 tropical storms with high winds during this recent election period, a number of my campaign signs have gone missing. I purposely delayed putting up some of my signs until the first storm passed. Needless to say, a number of signs became displaced, destroyed or outright disappeared. I understand to some degree the pranks of juvenile behaviour from some of our youth, but I must express my outrage to those who deliberately and diabolically went out to create havoc for me. This type of activity is totally inexcusable and unjustifiable. If someone has a problem with me, then I expect them have the personal fortitude to speak with me directly. I can take constructive criticism but the destruction of personal property is another matter. If anyone should find or know the whereabouts to any of my missing signs, I would appreciate if you let me know where I can retrieve them. Thanks.
