H.R.M. District 3 Councillor’s Communiqué
July 2008 - Issue # 128

COMMUNITY TRANSIT ON SATURDAYS

Once again, Community Transit will offer Saturday service during the summer months of July and August. It is expected to start on July 5th and run until Aug.30th Labour Day Weekend. This service adjustment is in response to accommodate the demand for such enhanced weekend access to Metro. This will certainty help those students with summer jobs and for seniors and many others wanting to get into town for appointments and special events. Further details with schedules will be distributed on the bus and web-site announcements. For the community transit schedule, go to :

CARPOOL - SHARE A RIDE LINK

HRM is encouraging residents to carpool, walk, bike or take transit to work. Citizens can log onto www.HRMSmartTrip.ca to find commuters in their area who are looking to share a mode of transportation. HRM Smart Trip is a free online service which is supported by HRM and administered by RideShark. This is a state of the art ride-matching system that allows commuters to quickly and securely find carpool partners. By registering on www.HRMSmartTrip.ca you can find people who are interested in carpooling to work, taking transit, biking or walking together. The system matches people based on proximity to origin and destination points and travel route as well as similar working hours and compatible carpooling preferences. A match list is returned instantly when you search for carpool partners. No personal information is released to potential matches. Simply e-mail the individuals on your match list and then it's up to you to discuss the arrangements so that your new carpool will work for you. If you have any questions about the program, please visit www.HRMSmartTrip.ca, click on "Contact Us" in the left hand menu and fill out the contact/question form. Or call Roxanne McInnis at 490-4160 for more info.
