VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION
Each year, communities all across Canada celebrate International Volunteer Week. 
This year it will be from April 27th to May 3rd. The primary purpose of this specially
designated week is to thank and honour people who donate their time to help others 
by supporting the causes in which they believe. The theme for National Volunteer Week is
"Volunteers: From Compassion to Action”. The following web-sites on volunteering have

Selected volunteers from across HRM have been nominated to represent the thousands 
of volunteers presently working throughout our municipality. These volunteers will be 
recognized by HRM during a Volunteer Awards & Appreciation Reception on Wednesday,
April 30th, 7 PM at the Dartmouth Holiday Inn.

Congratulations to the 2008 nominated recipients from the District 3 area:

2008 HRM INTERIM TAX BILLS

If any property owner does not receive their HRM interim tax bill by March 31st, then you should call the HRM Call Centre at 490-4000. The due date is Wednesday, April 30th.

All HRM Customer Service Centres will have extended store hours until 5 PM on Tuesday,
April 29th and Wednesday, April 30th.

 

REMEMBER Rev. Dr. MLK Jr. ’s LIFE

This year, on April 4th, will mark the 40th anniversary of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. death. His dream and legacy for social justice and non-violence still lives on today. Please take sometime out to reflect on his life’s work.

 

ROSS ROAD SCHOOL AUCTION

Earth Day is a time to celebrate gains we have made and create new visions to accelerate environmental progress. Be Sure to buy biodegradable and recycled items. And plant some seeds and seedlings to regrow and regenerate the environment.

ORENDA CANOE SPRING AUCTION

Orenda Canoe Club is hosting a spring auction at the Porters Lake Pub on Saturday afternoon, April 26th. Please support their efforts. For more information or to make a donation, please contact Donna at 827-3474.

 

CANCER SOCIETY LUNCHEON

The local chapter of the Canadian Cancer Society is having its Annual Chicken Salad Luncheon on Sunday, April 27th, 12 - 2:00 PM at the Porter's Lake Community Centre. Home deliveries are available for the Chezzetcook / Porter's Lake area. Call 827-4072 or 827-3383 now or before 11 AM on that day of the lunch.

 
DOWNTOWN PHOT CONTEST

There is a HRM photo contest that hopes to capture the essence of our downtown area. Do you have any great pictures with an unique perspective on the beauty of our city? Our HRM Capital District is Nova Scotia’s centre of business, government, events and attractions so there’s  plenty to capture. This contest is targeting 4 areas of the HRM Capital District: Downtown Dartmouth; Downtown Halifax; Quinpool Road, and Spring Garden Area.

Enter up to 2 photos per Capital District area, for a maximum of 8 photos in total, representing any of the following categories:
Architecture;
Streetscape;
Landscape/scenery: Public Art;
Public events/outdoor activities;
and Urban Life.
